We had the pleasure of receiving a $7500 Fund for Teachers grant to Zimbabwe through a partnership with Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence and the Tulsa Community Foundation. Of the 302 Oklahoma applicants, 82 were funded. We were extremely honored to be among the 165 teachers who received a total of $428,574.85! Fund for Teachers enriches the professional growth of teachers by recognizing and supporting them as they identify and pursue opportunities around the globe that will have the greatest impact on their practice and the academic lives of their students around their school communities. Do you know a teacher who would like to design their own learning experience around the world? Encourage them to DREAM BIG and check out the links above for more information! We’re proof that dreams really do come true !!! |

This cultural exchange would not have been possible without the support of our parents, students, teachers and community who raised additional funds for our trip as well as donated funds to the non-profit organization, Ancient Ways. Ancient Ways mission is to preserve and learn from traditional ways of indigenous peoples. Their Executive Director and Founder, Jaiaen Beck, came to Monroe in 2005 to teach our students traditional marimba music from Zimbabwe and how we could get involved with service learning projects such as Nhimbe for Progress. For more information or to find out how you can get involved, please visit their web site. We are forever indebted to Ancient Ways founders, Jaiaen Beck and Cosmas Magaya, who not only created a schedule for our cultural exchange, but also welcomed us into their family and provided us with food, shelter and life-changing experiences that we will never forget. We are proud to be part of the Ancient Ways & Nhimbe Family! |
