We are excited the year and eager to meet your students, help you with resources, and provide support for your program.
What do School Counselors Do?
Truman Elementary School Counseling Office is staffed by one full time counselor and one part time counselor. The counselors are dedicated to serving students, parents, and teachers. Both counselors will provide support with classroom guidance, group sessions and student needs. The primary focus of the school counseling and guidance program at Truman Elementary is prevention. Both school counselors work with ALL students and our goal is to help empower students with self-knowledge, positive interpersonal skills, and coping strategies for the issues that elementary children typically face.
At Truman, the elementary school counselors provide services in the following ways:
Classroom guidance lessons
Assistance in crisis situations
Coordinate efforts with other school professionals in order to help students to be successful
Act as a consultant and referral source between school, parents, and community
Help in the process of admitting and orientating new families to the school
Parent presentations and/or workshops
