Mrs. Collins 4th Grade

Attendance

Please make sure to get your child to school on time. Students are counted tardy after 8:00 A.M. It is very important to the success of your child that they attend school regularly and do not miss out on critical instruction.

If your child is absent and you want homework, please contact the school by noon, and I will have it prepared for you to collect. Thanks.

4th States & Capitals

The students will be learning the states and capitals of all 50 states this year. This will be done throughout the year with various quizzes. In the weeks to follow the beginning of school, a list will be sent home with the states and capitals and a map so that you can help your child study. We will be learning the states and capitals one region at a time, building with each region. At the end of the year we will be able to locate each state and label its capital.

Agenda

Students will be provided with an agenda to write their daily assignments in. They will be expected to write in their agenda everyday and bring it home to be signed by a parent. This will help them to know what their assignments are when they bring work home and also let you know when they have homework. You can also write notes to me in the agenda.

Library Books

All students will be expected to have at least one chapter book on their level at their desks for our daily Self Selected Reading time. Students may check out books from the Library daily on an as needed basis. In addition, students may bring novels from home or the public library.

Students should be reading for a minimum of 15 minutes at home each night.

4/5th Multiplication/ Division Facts

Please review the multiplication and division facts nightly with your child. The 6-9 facts need particular attention. Success in math for fourth grade will be dependent upon mastery of these basic facts.

Correct & Returns

Each student has the opportunity to redo any paper (Except for tests) below a 70% for credit. Correct & Returns will be sent home each week in the Thursday Folder for parents to see. They must be signed by a parent and returned by the following Wednesday for more credit. If C&R papers are not returned corrected, then the original grade stands. I will not ask for C&R papers, I feel it should be the student’s responsibility.

Accelerated Reader Tests

Students will be expected to read an Accelerated Reader book and take a test on the computer every two weeks. These tests will count in their overall reading grade. Students will be able to choose their own book that is on their personal reading level. A list of the dates will be sent home at the beginning of every nine weeks. Please check with your child frequently to see how they are doing with their current book.

Tests that are not taken on time will result in a zero.

Homework/Weekly Report

There usually will not be assignments that are specifically homework. The homework that students have will be assignments that they do not finish in class. Students normally will be given a minimum of twenty minutes of in- class time to work on all assignments. These assignments will be due by 8:00 a.m. the following morning.

I will be sending home a progress report weekly in the Thursday folder. You will need to sign the report and send it back to school. I can make an extra copy for you to keep at your request.
