Goal
The Norman Public School Pre-Kindergarten
goal is socialization. The foundation for school success is cooperation with
peers, teachers and staff.
My goal is to provide four-year-olds with
the socialization tools they need to build a foundation for future school
success. I provide many experiences, which address all aspects of child
development, including social, emotional, and intellectual growth for children
to practice their new socialization tools.

In my classroom, the children will focus
on learning social skills as they explore math, science, numbers, alphabet,
reading, language arts, social studies, physical education and music. They will
discover the fun in learning as they work and play with books and manipulatives
in academic tub activities. I design activities to enhance student’s
dispositions to learn, to hypothesize, to predict, to look for cause and
effect, and to search for alternate solutions.
Children
choose who they will become during their fourth and fifth year of life! What an
awesome responsibility for the teacher and the parent! Students decide whether
taking a risk is a good idea, whether being a leader is worth the work, whether
they want to be successful in school just by watching how the teacher responds
to children in the classroom.

PreK Schedule
Children arrive in classroom
Children
arrive and put their names in the attendance basket. On Monday, children work
on a journal page and draw a picture of what they did "Yesterday."
During the rest of the week, children work with puzzles, or socialization and
academic tubs, blocks or books.
Group Time
Each child will
lead the group songs about the weather, the alphabet, and the nursery rhyme.
Children are alphabetically rotated to be the leader by their first name.
Socialization and Academic Tubs
On Monday
and Friday, the children will freely select activities in the classroom as they
learn to share, to question, to clarify, and to problem solve. On Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday, the children work with math, alphabet, and
classification activities in tubs. Science, cooperation games, language, and
outdoor classroom activities are conducted during this time.
The Wilson Pre-kindergarten academic
curriculum follows the “Oklahoma Priority Academic Student Skills” (PASS) from
the Oklahoma State Department of education.
I teach the prek academic skills with manipulatives and activities in a
ten tub system. The sets of tubs are
labeled Math, Science, Numbers, Alphabet, Language, Guided Reading, Puzzles and
Blocks. There are a set of ten tubs in
each academic area. Two students may
share the activities. They are
encouraged to make their own selection of both the activity and the
partner.
My academic tub system encourages
the learning styles of learners who are visual, auditory and kinesetic.
Recess/Bathroom/Snack/Story
Weather
permitting, I take the students outside for recess. We return to the classroom
for snack and story.
Art, Story Retelling, Second Step, Music
During this fifteen minutes, children listen to
lessons from the Second Step program and learn socialization techniques. I also
read stories and ask students to retell or learn art techniques. We sing the
alphabet in many different ways while we run, jump and stretch to make the
letters.

Closure
This is a discussion of the morning
instruction and closure music. We sing Hokey Pokey, Math Songs, play the
perimeter game and make AB Patterns.
Dismissal
Children are dismissed to their rides at the north
side of the school building in the bus loop on

Parents
You are always welcome to visit the classroom. Just drop in anytime. My philosophy is teamwork. You are your child’s first teacher and the
one who continues on with them. I send
homework on Wednesday that is designed to reinforce the lessons we are learning
in class, to be short and to encourage them to continue to see you as a teacher.
