The Longfellow Media Center ascribes to the NPS Library Media Program Mission Statement:
The mission of the Norman Public Schools Library Media Program is to create lifelong readers who are effective and efficient consumers of information and knowledge. To accomplish this mission school librarians work collaboratively with teachers and others to integrate information literacy skills with classroom content. Library media programs provide intellectual and physical access to materials in a variety of formats. A partnership is essential to the success of this mission. It requires the active involvement and support of the administration, teachers and and school community.

Book of the Month: Historical Fiction

Philbrick, Rodman. The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg. New York: Scholastic, 2009.
        192 p. Grades 5-8.
In 1863 Homer Figg's uncle,  "the meanest man in the entire state of Maine,"  illegally sells Homer's older brother to the Union Army. Twelve-year-old Homer, a self-admitted liar, tells the often hilarious tale of how he ran away to find his brother and save him from the war, was captured by slave catchers, became the "Amazing Pig Boy," flew off in a surveillance balloon, and was arrested as a spy. Back matter includes glossary of Civil War facts and slang. A 2010 Newbery Honor Book.

Longfellow Welcomes New Principal and Staff

Longfellow teachers are please to welcome Mr. Peter Liesenfeld as our new principal along with several new teachers. 2011-2012 is going to be filled with opportunities to meet new people and new experiences. How about beginning by meeting some new characters in the library? We have shelves and shelves of new books just waiting for you!
